✅ Description:

Indications

The medication Iprasol Inhaler is used to treat chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (a lung disorder in which the flow of air to the lungs is blocked). Breathing becomes simpler as a result of the airway muscles being relaxed. Coughing, wheezing, and trouble breathing are all alleviated. How frequently you should take your inhaler will be determined by your doctor. Patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) who are utilizing a typical aerosol bronchodilator but still have bronchospasm and require a second bronchodilator may utilize this inhalation aerosol. The impact of this medication may be felt within a few days, but it won't be fully felt for several weeks. This medication must be taken on a regular basis in order to be effective, so continue taking it even if you are not experiencing any symptoms.

Pharmacology

This inhalation aerosol contains Salbutamol (as Sulphate) and Ipratropium Bromide. It is a hydro fluoroalkane-based inhaler that is safe for the environment (HFA). Because it does not use chlorofluorocarbon (CFC) propellant, which is a major contributor to ozone layer depletion.

Salbutamol is a short-acting beta2-adrenergic bronchodilator, whereas Ipratropium Bromide is an anticholinergic bronchodilator. When combined with acetylcholine, ipratropium bromide inhibits the increase in intracellular concentration of cyclic guanosine monophosphate caused by acetylcholine contact with the muscarinic receptor on bronchial smooth muscle. This inhalation aerosol is intended to improve treatment responsiveness in patients with COPD by decreasing bronchospasm via two distinct mechanisms: anticholinergic (Para sympatholytic) and sympathomimetic. The use of an anticholinergic (Ipratropium Bromide) and a beta 2-sympathomimetic (Salbutamol) together is intended to help the patient by providing a stronger bronchodilator effect than either medication alone at the recommended dosage.

Dosage and Administration

Adult dose (Including the elderly): 2 puffs of Salpium 4 times a day (Patients may take additional puffs as required but the total number of puffs should not exceed 12 in 24 hours). Or as directed by the physician.

Although using an inhaler appears to be simple, most patients do not know how to use it correctly. When the inhaler is used incorrectly, less medicine reaches the lungs. Correct and consistent inhaler use will prevent or lessen the severity of asthma attacks.

Following simple steps can help to use an Inhaler effectively (According to "National Asthma Guidelines for Medical Practitioners" published by Asthma Association):

  • Iprasol Inhaler is a combination of two medications that helps patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease breathe easier (COPD).
  • This medicine is for inhalation only. The tablet should not be swallowed.
  • It should be taken at the same time each day.
  • It does not work right away and should not be used to relieve sudden breathing problems. Use your rescue inhaler to control sudden difficulty in breathing.
  • Remove the cap.
  • Shake the inhaler vigorously (at least six times) before each use.
  • If the inhaler is new or hasn't been used in a week or more, shake it vigorously and take one puff into the air to ensure that it works.
  • Breathe out as fully as you can comfortably and keep the inhaler upright.
  • Insert the actuator between your teeth and close your lips around the mouthpiece.
  • To release medicine, press down firmly and slowly through the mouth while breathing deeply and slowly.
  • Take the inhaler out of your mouth. Continue holding your breath for at least 10 seconds, or for as long as you are comfortable.
  • Wait 1 minute between puffs if your doctor has prescribed more than one inhalation per treatment (inhalations). Shake the inhaler vigorously and repeat steps 4–7.
  • Replace the mouthpiece's cap after use. Rinse your mouth with water after each treatment.
  • Check your technique in front of a mirror on a regular basis; if you see a white mist during inhalation, you may not have properly closed your lips around the mouthpiece, or you may not be breathing in as you press the can. This indicates a technique failure. If this occurs, carefully repeat the procedure from step 4.
  • Cleaning Instructions: Clean your inhaler at least once a week. Remove the canister and rinse the plastic actuator and cap in warm water, but do not immerse the metal canister. After thoroughly drying the actuator and cap, gently twist the metal canister into the actuator. Put the mouthpiece cap on.
  • To avoid fungal infections in your mouth and throat, gargle with warm water after each inhalation.
  • Take the first dose of this medication under medical supervision because it may cause wheezing or airway tightening (bronchospasm) immediately after use.
  • Your doctor may want to check your blood potassium level on a regular basis because low oxygen levels in the blood (hypoxia) and medications like Iprasol Refill can lower blood potassium levels.
  • After inhalation, only trace amounts of Iprasol Refill may be absorbed into the bloodstream. As a result, serious side effects are unlikely.

Interaction

This inhalation aerosol has been used in conjunction with other common COPD medications such as sympathomimetic bronchodilators, methylxanthines, and steroids. There have been no official drug interaction studies with this inhalation aerosol and these or other commonly used COPD medications. When combined with other anticholinergic and sympathomimetic medications, ipratropium bromide should be used with caution, as this may increase the risk of serious cardiovascular consequences.Beta-2-agonist-containing medicines, such as this inhalation aerosol, should be used with extreme caution in patients who are taking non-potassium-sparing diuretics, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, or tricyclic antidepressants.

Contraindications

Patients with a history of hypersensitivity to Soya-Lecithin or related food products such as soybean and peanut are not advised to use this inhalation aerosol. This inhalation aerosol is also not recommended for patients who are allergic to any other components of the drug or to atropine or its derivatives.

Side Effects

  • Dryness in mouth
  • Breathlessness
  • Cough
  • Tremor

Pregnancy & Lactation

Pregnancy category B for ipratropium bromide. Ipratropium has been shown in studies to have no teratogenic effects.

Pregnancy category C for salbutamol. Salbutamol has been proven in animal studies to be teratogenic.

However, there have been no appropriate and well-controlled trials using Salpium Inhalation Aerosol (a mixture of salbutamol and ipratropium bromide) in pregnant women. During pregnancy, this inhalation aerosol should be used only if the possible benefit outweighs the potential danger to the baby. It is unknown whether the Salpium Inhalation Aerosol components are excreted in human milk. Salpium should be provided with caution to a nursing mother because many medications are excreted in human milk.
